Best Virtual Conferencing Platform

Using Live Streaming platforms for Virtual Conference Events is not new. It just needed a reason to catch on, and the recent Global Pandemic event was the impetus for that change. How, where and when we meet is being reinvented and the days of travelling to a business event at a conference centre are gone. For now. But it’s fair to say that trade shows will be changed forever as we move forward. And a virtual event platform is what will take its place, but they are not all built the same.

Yet, as any good business person knows, this is an opportunity to reinvent how we meet. Now that our jobs have shifted so abruptly to working remotely, we find ourselves floundering online as we try to pivot. Until now, networking in a large room full of our peers has been a challenge to recreate in the virtual world. But not anymore.

“It has proven to be more efficient than many offline events. Discussion, networking, collaboration – exactly what the next stage of online platform needed.”

Virtual Events Near Me…Literally

Right now, any search with the word “virtual conference” brings a plethora of pages highlighting competing Software as a Service (SaaS) platforms. For the uninitiated, it can be quite daunting to understand the field. But don’t let it scare you off. What you really need to understand, is that most of the Software as a Service offerings offer the same thing. They are variations on the same principle: one-way communications. But what we need in a quarantined world is true Interactive communications.

Webinars, live streaming, vlogging, FB Live, webcast, live-on-demand and teleconferencing all have one thing in common: they all operate like television. They are one-way communications with the flow going from the presenter to the attendee. Yes, some platforms like Facebook Live have interactive capabilities through text, but those communications only go to the host. Although it is a huge step forward for virtual interactive real-time communications, a new bar has been set with virtual conferencing.

The New Virtual Convention Center

But first it is important to understand how conferencing streams are different from Live Streaming. In live streaming sessions, the host talks to the attendees like an unscripted talking head. Sometimes they are on-point and other times, not-so-much. At the same time, attendees can communicate with the presenter through text messaging on the platform and hope for an answer to their questions. Hosts can talk to attendees and the attendees can message presenters. But there is one crucial element that is missing. Attendees cannot interact with each other. Until now.

The Virtual Teleconference Like No Other

Floor plan layout of virtual conference online space

With the Live Virtual Event Platform the attendees enter a “room” where they can see the avatars of the other people at the conference. They are represented by their avatars and assigned around tables, just like in an in-person business meeting. To see who is at your table, you just need to hover over their image and a popup window appears with more information, including the ability to connect their LinkedIn profile with yours. Just like a real networking event, you can move to other tables when you see someone that you want to connect with. You just double click, and you’re there. Then join the conversation or engage someone at that table in a private interaction.

When it’s time for the presentations, the host will call everyone back to their “seats” through a countdown meter, mute all conversations and let the speakers take the floor. And just like a real conference, there is room for sponsorship banners in the virtual event space.

There can also be Live Q&A sessions, with the attendees being able to vote on the questions being posed, moving the most important to the top. There is also a collective whiteboard available for each table where lists can me made or conversations drawn out. Attendees can also share their screen, share tabs in their browsers or share videos for illustrating points. This actually gives remote workers more communication options than they might have at a person-to-person event.
